Posting Blog #3 AND am up to 2 followers. Slowly but surely. The message will get out there. Ever since we got the diagnosis of high functioning autism, we have heard alot about if kids are getting it because of the vaccinations. Honesly, I dont know. Its a catch 22. Your pediatrician makes you think that your kids need them; then there are all these studies that say otherwise. Welcome any thoughts on this...until next time, friends

  1. Keisha,
There are lots of studies that claim there is no link between vaccines and autism and there are many who feel otherwise. Some have said that vaccines and other events like trauma or whatever can trigger an underlying syndrome that existed already but had not "manifested" as yet. Many have talked about how the increased rate of autism diagnoses could be the result of improved diagnostic tools and labeling of the various levels of severity on the spectrum whereas in the past only the most severe cases were labeled "autistic" and the rest were labeled other things or not at all. I personally don't believe that vaccines cause autism but I do believe they could be a trigger. I'm more inclined to believe that autism may be caused by genetics and/or environmental exposures both in utero and infancy. I don't know the stats but I know a number of moms with more than one autistic child in the family - both in their immediate and extended families. It's frustrating and sad that we don't have the answers that would help us prevent and cure the illness/condition - I feel the same way about cancer. I hope we find it fast though, for everyone's sake - especially for all the innocent babies and children. xoxo Asking the questions and demanding the answers is an important step in getting us there so keep asking and make your voice heard by policy makers and researchers too.
